I’m Robin Benich, known online for my art as Salamanding! Nothing brings me more joy than to bring something cool from inside my own head to out in the real world, so I’ve spent my entire life developing my skills in art, design, and illustration.
As I’ve been pursuing art for as long as I can remember, I’ve found ways to grow my skills through self-teaching, school classes, online guides, books, etc. Since my art really started getting recognition online I’ve had more and more people interested in my methods as an artist. My course is made-up of 4Â modules, with more than 5Â hours of demonstration and instruction through 10 video segments! You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want, but I suggest you take them in order and follow along with my demonstration!

Module 2 — First Steps: Finding Your Direction
Before you draw a single line, you'll clarify what you want from your character and explore the difference between designing for expression versus designing with purpose in mind.
Module 3 — Ideating: Throw Everything at the Wall
This is where the fun begins. You'll generate ideas freely through rough sketches, wild combinations, and endless variations — loosening up and exploring without overthinking.
Module 4 — Sketching: Solidifying Your Character
Take your best ideas and start locking them in. Through turnarounds, poses, expressions, and color palettes, you'll build a complete, consistent character that feels fully realized.
